These hand carved Tikka boxes were traditionally used to store the powder for tilaka, a Hindu mark worn on the forehead and other parts of the body. The powder may be made with sandalwood paste, ashes, kumkum, sindhoor, clay, or other substances. In some regions a mixture of abir, a red powder, yogurt, and grains of rice is worn.
These delightful wooden boxes could be used for their traditional purpose or simply as
a hand carved ornament.
Hand made in India, each piece is unique.
